Cooking An Amazing Potato Dish – And More Fish Balls Too! Cookbook Confidential Has The Recipes!

It’s day three of the terrific Cookbook Confidential review series, and today Dorothy Grover – Read made two dishes from “The Book Of Jewish Food” Cookbook, and both look terrific – in fact, I made one of them yesterday!

As she wrote in her review:

“Roden said there are many variations on a potato kugel from using grated potatoes to mashed, with the addition of spices, cabbage, and even cheese. She recommended a basic grated potato version using vegetable oil rather than chicken fat, and kept it simple with just eggs and onion added. Sounded like a perfect side to me.”

You can see both recipes with step-by-step instructions plus the insightful review by clicking on Bernadette’s great website, where all of the reviews reside:

One of the best parts of this review series is learning about cultures around the world – and of course the food! As I said, Dorothy and I both made the same dish!

I served my Fish Balls over pasta, and they were delicious!

Click here for a look at how I made them:

I enjoy cooking sauces – and soups too!

Yes, I love wet food, so making a traditional Bernuda fish chowder is my favorite!

You see, making fun food doesn’t have to be a challenge…for example what if I felt like dining in Venice Italy tonight – as the legendary Harry’s Bar?

Well, I took care of that by making two classic dishes from the cookbook!

Along with my “52 In 22” cooking challenge, I am sharing other food stories like this:

Some incredibly enterprising women created “burrito tape” and the world may never be the same!

I also have shared all of my worst cooking disasters, like this:

Michael Ruhlman’s great “Egg” cookbook almost cracked me! I almost butchered his “Crispy Mollet Egg With Asparagus” recipe – click here to see how I salvaged it:

  1. Thanks John! I absolutely loved the fish balls, and when I make them again, I’m serving them over pasta like you did!
I’m still contemplating the burrito tape…

  2. I’ve never had them, but they look so good. all of it does, even your ‘disaster’ dishes )

  3. So many cultures around the world serve food in ball shapes. Meat balls, Fish balls, Falafel balls, and many other varieties of seafood and vegetables in balls. My guess is it might derive from not having ovens, and frying everything in a pan on an open-fire. I could be wrong of course! 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.
