Cooking For The Camera…Here Are Some Recipes Caught On Tape!

Say “Cheese!”

“Cheesy” may be more like it – but for those who have read my food blog as well as my main one, Johnrieber.com, you know that I have a “bacon-and-egg” iPhone cover, and I like to shoot videos cooking.

I also like to film food being prepared for me – and remember when they saw my iPhone cover and abruptly stopped the service?

Well, the incredible staff at Hotel Pavie in St. Emilion were good sports about my interruption, and they delivered an incredibly unique meal – you can see it here;

Why am I telling you this? Well, I have a food review to share soon and it’s mostly just the camera on me eating something…which I hesitate sharing because I’d rather show something being cooked like this:

I love the slow motion of the parmesan being shaved over the eggs and spinach – I don’t even remember doing that! It was part of my “eggs two day two ways” effort, which you can see by clicking here:

I also tried to share video of how to make chicken and pasta in a single pot – before I had a stand for the camera:

Yes, that is chicken and pasta and they were cooked together….and I cooked some of it while holding the camera in my left hand – not always a good idea:

It was fun, it was a bit messy, but if you want the recipe to try at home, just click here:

Mostly, I like to share cooking videos because it helps show off the food better than just still photos, especially when it’s the music of sizzling bacon:

And there are times when it can showcase the passion that someone has for food.

I just shared this video of the late great Chef Michael Chiarello showcasing his “live fire cooking” and you can see the joy in what he is doing:

He was a great Chef and loved food – here is a look at his life and a recipe I made to honor him:

So, this will serve as a warning that I did indeed film myself reviewing these:

Be warned, my “deep fried Oreo” review is posting soon!

  1. Ah, the challenges of being both a chef and photographer at the same time

  2. Deep fried Oreos? I look forward to seeing how that turned out.
In some parts of the UK, (especially in Scotland) fish and chip shops sell deep-fried Mars bars. I have never tried one, I confess.

    Best wishes, Pete.

    • Pete, thanks for reading and leaving the note…Alex wondered what had gotten into me to buy the bag and do the test, and I will be sharing tomorrow! Thanks for the clip on the deep-fried Mars bars – talk about gilding the Lilly!
