Cooking Aliyah And Joodse Boterkoek Too! The Cookbook Confidential Has The Recipes And Review!

Meet “The Julia Child Of Jewish Cooking!”

I love this choice as I haven’t cooked Jewish food and was eager to try!

Here’s what I found out about the cookbook and Chef Claudia Roden:

“Claudia Roden is the author of several cookbooks. To me, she is the Julia Child of Jewish cooking. She was born to a family of Sephardic Jews in Cairo, educated in Paris and moved to London, where she still lives. Her tome, The Book of Jewish Food: An Odyssey from Samarkand to New York was the James Beard Foundation’s Cookbook of the Year. It includes more than 800 Ashkenazic (Central and Northern European) and Sephardic (Spanish, Middle Eastern and Portuguese) recipes.”

Today, the terrific food bloggers Michiel and Jeen stepped up to take on two recipes from the cookbook for review!

Here is a picture of a dish called Aliyah, stewed chicken with tomatoes, tamarind, cilantro, and basil. . They review this dish as well as  Joodse Boterkoek, which they describe as:

“very typical for the Netherlands. It is a rich combination of lots of butter, sugar, flour, and a pinch of salt.”

I loved their review, which is filled with tons of cultural and historical information about the dishes and the regions they come from….they also have great wine pairing suggestions as well!

Here is more about this couple:

Michiel and Jeen (also known as Mr. Cook and Mr. Drink) enjoy tasty food and good wine. On our website, https://cookanddrink.orgwe try to show that with the right ingredients and a few skills it’s possible to prepare great food at home. We believe in flavours and aromas and are inspired by French, Italian, and Japanese cuisine. Amongst our favorite authors/chefs are Hilaire Walden, Antonio Carluccio, Akira Oshima, and Alain Passard.

This series gives us all a chance to discover new recipes, and to offer up our opinion as to whether a cookbook deserves a spot on your shelf!

Yesterday, Jo Tracy offered up some great insight about the book, a review that is really worth reading!

You can read the entire recipe and review by clicking here:

I took part in this review as well:

I made fish balls from scratch and cooked them in a spicy tomato sauce – see the entire recipe here:

And Robbie Cheadle shared a terrific recipe for a honey cake!

Robbie made this for her Dad, and that’s what cooking is all about – making food with love!

See her recipe here:

I love to cook from a Chef’s cookbook when they share their passion and perspective on food, like this:

The late great Zuni Cafe Chef Judy Rodgers made this delicious dish and here is the recipe:

Here’s another dish from the “Cookbook Confidential” series:

Bernadette kicked it off when she cooked these stuffed cabbage leaves and you can see the entire recipe here:

I have also cooked a traditional Italian “Sunday Gravy”, with an interesting assist from Actor / Cookbook Author / Food Travel Host Stanley Tucci:

I learned a fascinating bit of information about how you are supposed to serve this dish, and you can see how I did by clicking on my story here:

I am sharing and storing all of these recipes on my food website “Bite! Eat! Repeat!” – it’s your site for all things food – if you like what you see, please click on my link and follow this blog as well!
