Paris 2024 Lit Up For The Olympics! My French Food Adventures – And Potatoes Of Course!

Paris Is Lit Up For The Olympics!

We just celebrated our first night in Paris – and we took a cab around the Arc de Triomphe – which was lit up with a French flag proudly swirling in the wind with the Olympus insignia atop…how to top that?

Here’s a short peek:

We all agree that Paris is one of the world’s best food cities, and while I am here all week I will put that to the test…which I already did!

How about a dish of Pigeon Wellington with Foie Gras – and the leg to chew on as well!

Yes, as you can imagine, my adventure in Paris for the 2024 Olympics is focused on food!

My wife is taking part in the opening night ceremonies of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, which is being hosted by Kelly Clarkson. Alex is working with the terrific NBC Olympics team all week – and we are eating lots of fun stuff as well.

There is a lot to share, but I am just settling in, so more to come all week…and don’t worry I will share this kind of stuff as well:

The Eiffel Tower is lit up all week as well – but even better than starting at it is eating in it – see what I had when I ate at the Jules Verne restaurant!

Because Alex is a “lover of potatoes”, we had to have some – and these whipped potatoes were decadent in the best way!

“More butter, more salt, more cream” is the mantra for this dish – we love this city’s creative take on potatoes – here are some of our favorites!

One incredible meal will always be the “caviar-stuffed twice-baked potato” dish we had:

Caviar Kaspia’s “Caviar Topped, Double-Baked Potato!”

It’s located in the Place de Madeleine, a terrific caviar shop that has a restaurant on the second floor, where you can have lots and lots of caviar, including on top of a twice-baked potato!

The potato is twice baked and combined with lots of cream and butter to create the perfect vessel to hold the briny, shiny caviar eggs – and of course, you must have shots of Russian Vodka on the side!

Alex brought me here for my birthday, and it was indeed the tastiest gift of all! You can see more about our trip here, and so other potatoes from our Parisian past as well by clicking here:

Much more to come from Paris! If you like the story, share it with friends on social media! Thanks!

  1. How cool is that?!! You’re going to have a wild time! I’m not envious because that’s way too many people for me, but I could certainly handle the dining! Pigeon with foie gras sounds amazing. Are those whipped potatoes Aligot? I made them once and couldn’t stop eating!!! Can’t wait for more!

  2. It must be so exciting to be there right now! Enjoy.

  3. Enjoy Paris! Here are two of our favorites: Restaurant Aspic (https://www.aspic-restaurant.fr) and Le Train Blue (https://www.le-train-bleu.com/en/)

  4. I had wondered why you were going to Paris during the Olympics and now I know the reason. I hope the whole trip can be put down to expenses! 😉 Have a great time.

    Best wishes, Pete.

  5. It looks amazing, John. A fantastic opportunity.
