Who’s Up For A Tasty Travel Adventure?
We were in 2022, when we stayed at “The White Lotus” Hotel in Taormina, Sicily….well, we stayed at the incredible San Domenico Palace, which was used as the location for the second season of the terrific TV series…here’s the view from the top of Taormina, with Mt. Etna in the distance:

Welcome To “The White Lotus!”
This stunningly beautiful hotel at night is actually the San Domenico Palace – and the entrance is gorgeous:

The San Domenico Palace is in the hilltop town of Taormina Sicily, and it got a lot of attention because of season two of the hit TV show!

For those who don’t know, season two of “The White Lotus” took place here – and we not only stayed there, we ate there too!

Season three just wrapped in Thailand, but fans know that season two was set at this exclusive Sicilian resort. Here’s what it looked like when she entered our room:
The view was incredible, as was the selection of small bites set out to welcome us to the hotel:

A collection of terrific bites welcomed us to the hotel…we stayed there after the season had been shot, but before it aired – we didn’t plan it but it was really cool!

Drinks by the pool made us hungry, so it was off to dine at the hotel’s gorgeous restaurant:

Small bites like this fried Zucchini Blossom along with a delicate white fish led to more seafood:

Poaches prawns and seared cuttlefish…everything was light, full of flavor and utilized local ingredients for maximum freshness…

A fresh pean and lava bean soup, served chilled, led to my favorite dish of the night:

The raw cuttlefish ws topped with fresh Uni, and an Uni broth was poured around it..devine…

As you can see, the dishes were beautifully plated and sauced…and an incredible staff was attentive and very proud of their role in the TV series: which had finished filming the month before, but hadn’t premiered yet so we saw the locations before TV fans did!
Now, back out to the pool…here is the view as you swim to the edge:

After dark, the views of Taormina are incredible – that’s the town from our hotel room – perched on the edge of this cliff overlook the sea. Here’s more of a tour of the interior of the hotel if you want a full inside look!
One of the dishes was covered with a ground cocoa, like lava…there was a reason for that of course:

This is their homage to the most active volcano in Europe – Mt Etna sits off int he distance – and this dish was especially powerful to us – since we climbed it!
Here is video of the volcano directly across from where we were allowed to hike:
After our volcano adventure we had to enjoy some lava wine!

It was all part of our food and wine adventure below Mt. Etna at Planeta winery, also used in a scene from White Lotus! See what we ate, and how I replicated one of their signatures dishes here:

So much fun to see these photos and videos! We stayed at the hotel last September, and it was so beautiful. We only ate breakfast at the hotel, but did you see the breakfast buffet?!!! Incredible!!!
that is an absolutely stunning hotel and the food looks to die for. how cool that they used the real staff in the show
A big, big childish ‘wow’! Have not seen the TV show or been to the place and hence the hotel. Must say the food does look spectacular . . , and I am most closely eyeing that raw cuttlefish also. Even the chilled soup is beautifully served! And that small bites serving dish may be totally over-the-top but I have not sighted anything like it in my life! I may be sitting here green-eyed but thank you so much for taking us for a look 🙂 !!!
Oh man! You must have thought you died and went to heaven!
Yes it was something…and a month later when the series premiered, we got to experience it all over again! Thanks for the comment!
I have never seen the TV show, but the resort and the food look wonderful.
Best wishes, Pete.
This looks like an incredible trip, John. I thought from the title, it would be a dish made from a lotus flower. TC and I cooked that while in Japan.
OH I love that! I have never used lotus root – but it would be fun to try!
It’s actually quite tasty.
