We’ve All Seen This…
I love pizza. But we all have a few leftover pieces that look so lifeless and forlorn the next day…what to do?
Well, I have the answer!
Make A “Pizza-Shaped Burger!”
Yes, I decided to take those two leftover slices of pizza and use them as the bun for a pizza-shaped cheeseburger! And of course, I also decided to use the hot grill wisely, and added some hot dogs and sliders to my feast as well!
It was part of a outdoor grilling feast, so on the grill went some salmon, hot dogs, sliders and of course, that pizza-shaped burger:
I cooked the burger on each side for 5-6 minutes, seasoned only with some salt and pepper…I assumed the pizza would bring lots of flavor as well – it was after all a sausage black olive pizza…
After putting some shredded mozzarella cheese on the burger, and heating up the pizza slices on the top rack of the grill, it was time to assemble!

And here you are: a cheeseburger with a “pizza slice bun” – no need to add condiments because the pizza had black olives and tomato already embedded in it!
And guess what? While a bit unwieldy, it was actually good! The pizza tasted great re-heated, and the extra mozzarella cheese made for some gooey goodness as well…the meat had a nice flavor and you can also bolster it a bit as well, but it worked just fine!
Of course, the crust was a bit tougher than a bun, but not too much, and offered a nice texture, especially since I cook my burgers medium rare and juicy!

I love mashups for a number of reasons: first, taking disparate flavors and combing them can result in magical outcomes…and sometime they are just too cool not to try, like this!

This looks like an interesting notion, but I don’t think it would be for me. Think I would struggle with biting over all that!
It was an interesting experiment which I am willing to say will never be on my food repertoire again!
