Carol’s Culinary Journey Around The World Bites Into India!
My blogging friend Carol has another installment in her terrific look at food from “A – Z!”
This time, she explores the incredible culinary history of India:
Carol’s stories are filled with the history of the food in that region, with insight and information like this:
“India was named the ‘golden bird’ because of its abundant raw materials and availability of precious stones…Gold was first found in the lands of India. There are several references to the trade of gold from India to other parts of the world. The pearls which Julius Caesar presented to Brutus’ mother and the famous earrings of Queen Cleopatra were traded from India.”
India is a country with bold, colorful flavors, and Carol also shows you a clip of a really cool culinary street scene as well – see it all here:
I cooked Indian food when I took part in a recent “Cookbook Confidential Cookbook Club”:
These “hard-boiled egg-stuffed meatballs” was delicious and you can see the recipe here:
I do want to attempt more Indian cooking, as well as Vietnamese, like this:
I made his Vietnamese “Banh xeo” pancake, and I want to try more as well!
You can see the recipe for that dish here:
I haven’t cooked much Indian food, although one effort involved a method known as “tiffin” cooking:
These eggplant rolls were part of my “52 in 22” cooking competition, and you can see the recipe here:
I always share my recipes, even when they don’t go right!
One of my disastrous efforts was when I tried to make Chef Michael Ruhlman’s “Mollet Egg”:

Is this the way it was supposed to turn out – and can you really bread an egg while cupping it in your hand?
