Biting Down On Some “Retro” Voltaggi-O’s! We “Double Dog” Dare You To Eat These Spaghetti-O’s!

Welcome To “Retro” Las Vegas!

This is the view of the Las Vegas Strip from my room at the Cosmopolitan Hotel – and whenever I go to Vegas I feel like I’m hangin gout with The Rat Pack!

There is so much history in this city – and now a restaurant wants to bring back some classic “retro” food as well!

A new “pop up” restaurant called “Retro” has a menu filled with classic dishes from your childhood! Here’s how Mandalay Bay describes it:

“Vintage Flavor. Modern Flair.”

Inspired by the best of the 80s, 90s and now, Retro by Voltaggio is the bomdiggity of dining experiences unlike any other in Vegas. Taste the rad with a remix of America’s favorite dishes with an electrifying throwback spirit.

Chef Michael Voltaggio has a great sense of humor, and the restaurant has some fun retro displays of vintage “stuff” to look at when you enter:

Here is a quick video of some of the stuff on display:

Really fun “retro” displays surround the dining tables – and as for the menu, “retro” is also on full display which you will see as I take you through a few of the retro items on the menu.

As you can see, they have playfully categorized the menu into fun areas:

Let’s dive into one of the unique dishes under the heading “Get the Party Started”

Deviled Eggs!

Subtitled “the devil wears caviar” these eggs are covered with a dab of hollandaise and have caviar already inside the egg as well!

A Retro Shrimp Cocktail!

Their take on a classic shrimp cocktail offers big plump wild shrimp, the way they eat it in Maryland, along with cocktail sauce and shrimp crackers.

Have you ever had a Pepperoni Roll?

And what if you just want a classic hanger steak?

Well, there it is, hidden under massive rectangular potato chips!

These were all “for the table” so everyone grabbed a bite of each – but the next dish was one that we had to order multiple dishes because everyone wanted to dig in!

Voltaggi-O’s!

For anyone who grew up with Chef Boyardee canned spaghetti-o’s, this was a trip down memory lane!

Yes, this classic canned food from our childhood has been lovingly restored to taste VERY SIMILAR to the original – and it is delicious, centered by a great and giant meatball!

Here’s how they serve it:

Here’s how they describe in on the menu:

“House-made O’s, arrabbiata butter, giant meatball, new school version of an old school canned favorite…”

Speaking of new twists on old classics:

A New Take On A Chicken Pot Pie!

Yes, these pot pies are croquettes sitting on a bed of black truffle couli! Inside is a delicious chicken and pea mix!

Under the heading of “Order ‘Em All, We Double-Dog Dare You” is this classic dish that all kids love:

Shells & Cheese!

Yes, it was a delicious as it looks – housemade shells, cheddar cheese whizzzzz was pure creamy goodness!

Our other side dish was a green bean casserole, delivered in a vintage casserole dish – and was also delicious!

Overall, the food was great and the staff was having a blast serving us! Bravo to the entire team!

While in Las Vegas, we stayed at The Cosmopolitan, which overlooks the fountains at The Bellagio…enjoy!

That is the Eiffel Tower at The Paris across the street…we were in Las Vegas to see Kelly Clarkson performing her “Chemistry” residency at Planet Hollywood – here is her performing live on stage with her rousing finale of the show – enjoy “Stronger” and “Since You Been Gone!”

Las Vegas can be a lot of fun…but my world was “all shook up” by the news that the classic “Elvis” wedding ceremonies were going away!

I applaud everyone who had had an “Elvis” wedding, but here’s the story of why they may go away forever:

Hollywood has a great history with food, like this chili that Elizabeth Taylor loved:

It’s classic, delicious and fun to make at home – click here for the recipe!

I am really into vintage retro food – like this:

Bernadette shared this classic recipe and here it is to make at home yourself!
