“Pregnant Miserable Self Pitying Loser Pie… Lumpy oatmeal with fruitcake mashed in. Flambé of course!”
Time For Another “Dinner In A Movie!”
There is nothing better than a film that celebrates food – the kind of food you can rush out of the theater and make yourself! With that in mind, it’s time for another “dinner in a movie” – a great film with a recipe to go with it – and this time, it’s extra tasty!
Waitress!
How could you not love this adorable romantic comedy from 2007, when Keri Russell cooked up a storm to fight against her unhappy marriage…check out the trailer:
Keri Russell stars as the unhappy wife, a waitress at a diner who cooks pies to cover up her sad life…and hilariously names each one to go along with her mood! LOTS AND LOTS OF NAMES!
“I Don’t Want Earl’s Baby Pie!”
Of course, once you meet her husband Earl – perfectly played by Jeremy Sisto, you’d bake this pie, too! Russell works alongside Cheryl Hines – perhaps best known for “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, along with Adrienne Shelly, who also directed the film…
Russell loves to bake pies, which she serves at the diner owned by longtime customer Andy Griffith…
Things take a dramatic turn when she gets pregnant and her Doctor, Nathan Fillion enters her life. This is a terrific independent film, with a great script, perfect acting and a lot of pies!
This movie was overshadowed when it was released in 2007 by the tragic death of Director Adrienne Shelly, who was killed by a day laborer working on her house…this horrible crime occurred after filming “Waitress” but before the movie’s release…Shelly also has a small role in the film as well…a really awful tragedy…one more reason to see the film: to honor Shelly’s memory.
“Waitress” was a breakout movie that announced her arrival as a major new Directing talent. And Keri and Nathan are terrific in this great slice of life film, featuring a ton of great new pies baked by Keri…such as the “Earl Murders Me Because I’m Having An Affair” pie, or the “I Hate My Husband” pie…
Jenna: [singing to her toddler daughter Lulu] Baby don’t you cry, gonna make a pie, gonna make a pie with a heart in the middle/Baby don’t be blue, gonna make for you, gonna make a pie with a heart in the middle/Gonna make a pie from heaven above, gonna be filled with strawberry love/Baby don’t you cry, gonna make a pie, and hold you forever in the middle of my heart.
