The Hottest Food Trend For 2026 Is “Grandmacore”! Here’s Her Scalloped Potato Recipe!

Grandma’s In The Kitchen Cooking Up A Storm!

I had a Grandmother who cooked, and I’m sure most of you did as well…as it turns out, Grandma’s cooking is the hottest culinary trend of 2026!

This Schwenkfelder Library drawing shows how it must have been in Grandma’s time: focused, deliberate, confident that she is about to make you the best apple pie you’ve ever eaten…and then she did!

So I entered “Grandma cooking” into my Google AI and here’s what I got: OK, that will do the trick.

Time to introduce you to “Grandmacore!”

👵🏻 Grandmacore: “We’re talking about the kind of warm, grounding foods your best imaginary grandma might have made, like sourdough bread, dried apples, sauerkraut and vegetables she canned herself.”

Yes, “Grandmacore” is a cozy, nostalgic aesthetic embracing a traditional, slower-paced lifestyle reminiscent of a grandparent’s home. Popular among Millennials and Gen Z, it focuses on comfort, sustainability, and “granny” hobbies like baking, knitting, gardening, and embroidery.

To honor this return to a retro nostalgia for a simpler time, let’s make some classic “scalloped potatoes!”

“The Joy Of Cooking” embodies all of the “grandmacore” lifestyle: classic recipes from almost 100 years ago!

I made them using this iconic book as my guide!

Here’s what they looked like when I took them out of the oven:

After letting them sit for a half hour, I plated Grandma’s scalloped potatoes:

Simple and satisfying!

Speaking of retro food, how about these?

Those are “Spaghetti-O’s”, served with a giant Meatball! See why they made them for me in Las Vegas by clicking on my story here:

I love that “retro” food is making a comeback – for example, Hollywood has a great history with food, like this chili that Elizabeth Taylor loved:

It’s classic, delicious and fun to make at home – click here for the recipe!

I am really into vintage retro food – like this:

That’s Fettucini Alfredo – the recipe that was given to Movie legend Douglas Fairbanks! Here’s the recipe – plus how he managed to get the recipe, which was made for him at Hollywood’s oldest restaurant!

  1. We loved scalloped potatoes, and I didn’t know you should let them set a while before dishing up! Now I know! 🙂

  2. Mmm, looks good. And yes, it’s exactly the kind of food I think of when I think of eating at grandma’s house. Hearty food for the belly and the mind. 😎

  3. Since our grand- and great-grandmothers did not go to supermarkets to buy same-same ultra-processed foods full of artificial rubbish – of course we should remember. look back and copy 🙂 ! My Swedish paternal one could create miracles out of all parts of a home-grown pig and made the best pirukad/piroshki (meat, cabbage etc hand pies) in the world – I know so 🙂 !
