Are You A Yakitori Fan?
Well I am…here’s what I had in New York recently – note how it glistens on the skewer.
Yakitori (Japanese: 焼き鳥, lit. ‘grilled bird’) is a Japanese type of skewered chicken. Its preparation involves attaching the meat to a skewer, typically made of steel, bamboo, or similar materials, after which it is grilled over a charcoal fire, like this:

It’s the perfect “finger food” to go with a cold Sapporo beer, and I captured a bit of the mastery when I sat at a bar:
But there is Yakitori, and then there is “Mega-Yakatori!”
What do I mean? This is what I mean!

That is a massive mega skewer of Yakitori! You know how much I love Japan: I mean, how can you NOT love a place that looks like this every night!
And of course, the terrific website”SoraNews24.com” covers all of the wackiness that takes place behind these lights…another great example being THIS:
Yes, It’s A “Mega-Yakitori!”
As Soranews24 said when they shared this story:
“Many drinking establishments in Japan offer yakitori, which is basically grilled marinated chicken on a stick. These are offered in a wide variety using different parts of the chicken, added vegetables, or different sauces, salts and spice blends.”
That led their intrepid Reporter Mr. Sato to head to Zenyaren Sohonten Tokyo because they had offered a one-of-a-kind type of grilled chicken called The World’s First Mega-Yakitori. Their limited edition menu item was reported to contain 30 times the meat of a regular stick of Yakatori!
The Mega-Yakitori Tale Of The Tape!
The “Mega-Yakitori” that Mr. Sato tackled was 3’3” long, and weighed 2.6 lbs! I was reminded of this “mega meal” when I ate some Yakitori lately, and Mr. Sato has some of the greatest reporting on food I’ve ever read!
Aside from this mega skewer of grilled chicken, Mr. Sato also did one of the most hilarious things ever – when a Japanese burger chain offered a special deal to add extra cheese slices to a burger, he took them up on it…boy did he take them up on it – one thousand fold!

His story went viral of course, and he followed up on it with a crazy followup as well…see the story here!
You must follow SoraNews24.com because all of their Reporters deliver terrific stories like this one:

Yes, they ddi the same thing when they ordered 1,000 slices of grilled onion!
Now that’s a grilled onion burger!

I have shared so many of the SoraNews24 food stories, like this one:

Yes, I actually got excited to see that Cup Noodles was releasing a breakfast version!
By the way, while in the US we call them “Cup Of Noodles”, their original name is “Cup Noodles!”
See that story here:

I would love to try that mega-yakitori!
I think with a big enough table to share it would be fun! Thanks for the note!
Hmm! What a fun ‘yakitori’ – may I look, grin, read and then go into my own kitchen and prepare this delight ‘my way’ 🙂 !
Do it!
I do enjoy Yakitori, but inprefer the small ones
Yes, while that restaurant did it as some sort of publicity stunt, the best ones are a few bites…like a tasting menu of small bites! Thanks for commenting, always great to hear from you!
Those big skewers are my kind of Japanese food, John. Cooked!
Best wishes, Pete.
