Just Me And A “Tartar Sauce Udon” Investigation…
For those who follow along, I love Ramen noodles and Udon bowls. And you might also know that I LOVE tartar sauce.
So when I went to my favorite place in West Los Angeles and saw this ad – for a “Teri Chicken Tartar Udon”, I had to launch a food investigation!

Welcome to Marugame Udon & Tempura, located on Sawtelle in what is known as the Little Osaka district of West Los Angeles – aka Japantown. I have taken you here before, because they make their Udon fresh daily and cook it right in front of you!

But Tartar Udon?
Look at the advertised dish: Udon noodles paired with teriyaki chicken nuggets and a creamy tartar sauce – this is a unique combo to be sure – so I had to see how it tasted!

They make all of their noodles on site and they are fresh – when you place your order, they boil it right in front of you, add your toppings and slide it onto your tray – and you then take your tray and slide it past lots of tempting Tempura options as well!
Check it out:
I always get some Tempura, and there is so much to choose from! On this day I grabbed some shrimp, then took my food to a table to dig in.
First, let’s take a look at the dish – watch as I add the soft-boiled egg:
Next, I lifted the noodles high above the dish again so I could see more of the ingredients – and then promptly botched my attempt to puncture the egg:
And then I ate!

Well…It Rocked!
I love tartar sauce, so the unusual “mashup” with the teriyaki chicken nugget didnt’ bother me – in fact, it offered a nice tangy counterbalance to the sweetness of the teriyaki….

The dish looked great, and rather than mix it together, I ate it by working my way around it – those are tempura cracklings on the left of the dish, which offer a tasty crunch as well.

I always love going to Marugame Udon and Tempura, because I can go in so many different directions when I order – see the entire menu and more of my food adventures there by clicking here:
I have also shared some of my ramen noodle adventures at home as well – thanks to this unique Cup Noodles flavor!

Yes, I ordered these special “Seafood Cup Noodles!”
I discovered a very satisfying way to “upgrade” these noodles – see that review here!
I have focused on what you can add to make dried ramen much more satisfying at home, and I have also shared stories of all the various products in Asia, like this:
This is the Cup Noodle “Mystery Meat” and you can buy it in a box to use however you want! Here’s the story SoraNews24 shared about all of the unique recipes you can make with it!
And Cup Noodle apparently has a goal to satisfy your hunger 24 hours a day!

Yes, you can start your day this way and I’d love to!
