My Wildest Mashup Ever? A “Scrambled Egg Hot Dog” Recipe!

A “Messy” Fried Egg…

I love cooking eggs, and if I mess up and simple “over easy” effort, no big deal, I just scramble them!

This messy preparation reminded me of the time I had a few eggs in the refrigerator, which led to the madness of this:

Scrambled Egg Hot Dogs!

Once, when my day turned to dinner, I didn’t intend to make a food mashup: I intended to use whatever leftovers I had in the refrigerator. But things have a way of going sideways for me in the kitchen!

Take a seat and get ready for me to walk you through my mind-bending food mashup, which began innocently enough with those eggs:

Hot Dogs And Eggs! A “Mashup” For The Ages!

You see? “Hot Dogs And Eggs” doesn’t sound nearly as twisted as “Scrambled Egg Hot Dogs” – and it all began because I had some leftover eggs I wanted to cook up for dinner – oh, and I had a few “other” things sitting around as well:

You can see I found myself with a couple of eggs, a few hot dogs, the buns that house them, a few slices of provolone cheese and a bulb of garlic…before you ask me how they all ended up on the same plate, let’s look at a traditional American breakfast:

You see? Eggs – many times with cheese included, some sort of meat, and toasted bread….so what I was up to was right along those same lines – just with a bit of a twist!

And you will notice I haven’t shown you the end result yet, because I want us to take this journey together! Let’s mashup a meal!

I began by searing the hot dogs…I didn’t think I needed to grill them – I just wanted a flavorful sear on them…

Next, I put them in their buns, and folded the provolone over them…I didn’t want the melted cheese in the pan so I gave them a quick :15 in the microwave and they were ready to go!

Next up, those two eggs:

I used the same pan for the eggs, so that’s a nice bit of “hot dog oil” infused in the eggs. I scrambled them together with some salt and pepper and they were ready to go as well.

Well, you know what happened next: I topped my hot dogs with the scrambled eggs – now it was time to bite down on this food mashup!

As you can see, the buns actually hold the eggs better than a plate would have! And, if you zoom in enough, you don’t even know what’s going on in there!

Of course, now it was time to stop talking and start eating!

So, What’s The Verdict?

If you’ve stayed this long, then you must want to know how it tasted, and the answer is simple:

IT TASTED EXACTLY LIKE YOU THINK IT WOULD! Delicious!

I chose not to use the garlic – while I love it, I just thought it would overpower the eggs – especially since the hot dogs had a nice charred flavor. That said, the eggs were delicious, the hot dogs tasty, and the provolone brought the two flavors together well – I could have toasted the buns for more of a crusty pop, and if I had mayonnaise it would have found a place on this dish for sure – but that said, I’d make “Scrambled Egg Hot Dogs” again!

I want to hear what you think, but don’t forget that I’ve shared many traditional egg recipes with you as well, like this one:

That’s right, I made “Baked Eggs” from the terrific “Chocolate For Breakfast” Cookbook and shared the recipe with you – they are delicious and you can make them yourself by clicking here:

Now, you know that I enjoy a good hot dog as well, and these ones from a street market in Seoul South Korea had some extra flavor wrapped around them!

Yes, they were cooked in a spicy/sweet Korean sauce – and bacon! I loved the street food in South Korea – here’s my “ode to Seoul food:”

And here in New York, there is one place you must go to enjoy an iconic hot dog:

Gray’s Papya is the place and here is my review of what you get!
