Who Wants An “Okonomiyaki Burger?” I Do And Here’s The Recipe To Make It At Home!

What Do You See? Well, I See Culinary Perfection!

Behold a very unique burger, going on sale next month in Osaka Japan….made with a uniquely delicious ingredient – what is it? Here you go!

Behold The “Okonomiyaki Burger!”

If you don’t know what Okonomiyaki is, that’s fine: I never did – until I found out – and my culinary life changed forever!

First, here’s the definition of “Okonomiyaki”:

Okonomiyaki, meaning “grilled as you like it,” is a savory Japanese pancake made with flour, eggs, and shredded cabbage, often containing meat, seafood, or other ingredients, and topped with sauce, mayonnaise, and bonito flakes

And now, it’s going to become a burger!

As the intrepid Reporters from SoraNews24.com report, the local hamburger chain Lotteria is at it again:

“Lotteria captures all the main ingredients found in okonomiyaki and serves it up in burger form, with a mound of shredded cabbage and pickled ginger at the bottom, a meat patty and egg on top, and okonomiyaki sauce, mayonnaise and a sprinkling of bonito flakes providing distinctive mouthfuls of flavour.

The main draw, though, is the discs of okonomiyaki that sandwich the filling together in place of traditional buns, giving us a new take on Osaka’s popular soul food.

As you know, I had some terrific Okonomiyaki in Tokyo with my wife Alex, son Jeff and his buddy:

See how great it was to eat there – you cook it yourself at your table!

I did in fact make some of it myself at home – here’s a look:

Here is a recipe to make it at home yourself!

I love Okonomiyaki – the above picture is the Okonomiyaki I made at home. I love Asian flavors of all kinds, and when I was doing my “52 In 22” cooking challenge, I did an entire menu of Japanese pub food!

When my wife Alex, son Jeff and I were in Tokyo we ate all kinds of wild food, like sushi for breakfast!

Since we ate there – and yes, the sushi bars surrounding Tokyo’s famous Tsukiji Fish Market served sushi at 6a – the market moved a bit further away from the city center – but it still exists so go see it!

Here is an inside look at the iconic market that was:

A bit more food and fun from Tokyo, you see my son befriends a Musician who worked in a bar and he played an original song for us!

It was an incredibly memorial night…here’s a sneak peek:

This “Golden Gai” entertainment area is so much fun – 200+ bars in a three block radius – see more of our magical night by clicking on my story here!

  1. Love okonomiyaki! Not sure about the burger but we would probably give it a try!

  2. I love the sound of this as I am not a fan of burger buns but do love cabbage so would eat this 🙂

  3. That sounds wonderful. Koreans have a similar pancake as you probably know. Not sure I want it on a burger, but then I’m not a burger freak!

  4. wow, pancake to burger transformation? can’t wait to see how it goes for you next week
