Have You Had “Cheese Tea?” aka “Fluffy Tea?”

This delicious confection from Asia is growing in popularity in the US – it goes by two different names but this shows you clearly what it looks like:

Here’s how it is described online:

Its name ‘cheese tea’ is not quite what it seems, as the cheese-infused topping is more like a sweet cheese or ice cream flavoured foam that sits on top of an ice-cold tea. Using either a black tea or a green tea, you can have plenty of fun making and drinking this indulgent treat.

Here’s how the terrific food newsletter “Fooditor” described it when they reported on the new drink hitting Chicago:

“A new Malaysian place called Bingo Tea Malaysian Cafe: “Bingo’s tea menu… spans fruit teas (dragon, yuzu lemon honey, black grape), milk teas (buckwheat matcha, caramel black), and more subdued honey drinks. All are customizable with a variety of additions (boba, red beans, lychee jelly), but presiding above all is the ‘milk cap,’ or ‘sea salt milk foam,’ which is how the principals behind Bingo have rebranded cheese tea. You can top pretty much any drink with it, hot or cold, but I think its best expression is its most minimal: slowly descending into one of the black, green, or oolong teas, no sugar added. Don’t poke a straw through it. Sip through the lid’s aperture so the liquid passes through the foam, offering a hint of cheesecake and salt ahead of the tea’s tannins.”

Wow, ladle it up!

As good as this drink sounds, I also just love the logo on the cup!

Chef Achetz is a wizard, and yes, it was the greatest meal I’ve ever had – a culinary experience where bacon arrives on a high wire, and my wife Alex finished one meal by eating a balloon!

  1. I guess I’m boring. I just like plain ole green tea. Too fancy for me! Love all the great and weird things you find!!

    • This started in Asia, where they embrace a lot of unique approaches to their beverages…considering a cup of tea at home is probably 1/50th the cost of this, you are making a smart choice1. Thanks for reading and commenting, much appreciated!
