My Deep-Fried Oreo Taste Test – The Feast Of San Gennaro!

Does This Look Good?

I’m always intrigued when I see an Oreo cookie mashup – this time wrapped in bacon and fried…yum!

If you don’t know, an Oreo is simple a chocolate round cookie that is held together with creamy filling between two cookies like this:

They are an iconic snack in the US, and over the past few years they’ve been added to a state fair’s snack repertoire….so when I went to New York’s legendary Feast of San Gennaro, I saw all kinds of great food like this:

Here’s what it looked like when they made a sandwich with the braciole:

It’s a celebration of food that is so much fun!

In fact, here is a look at some of the other food I tried:

You can see all of the food they serve – just click here for the full story of this annual food fest!

Near the end of my trip, I was intrigued when I saw this sign:

“Fried Oreos”…my curiosity got the best of me and I bought a small bag of them: 4 fried Oreos for $5…

Since I bought them, took the bag home and decided to try them for the first time with the camera rolling…

Here’s a closer look: it’s a straightforward preparation: it’s an Oreo cookie that has been dipped in batter and then deep-fried….so let’s see how it tasted:

So there you have it…chewy dough wrapped around a straightforward, tasty Oreo cookie…would I eat more?

I’m not hungering for one, but if offered, perhaps!

Oreos are being used in all kinds of unique ways- even McDonald’s in China has found a unique mashup for them:

Yes, it’s a Be honest….would you?

To be honest, I would – why not? What if it actually tasted great?

Click here to see exactly what you would be sticking in your mouth!

Or are you more traditional and just want to keep it to deep-fried candy:

Yes, this is deep fried Twix cereal, and you can see who did it and why here:

Finally, if your taste runs sweet, would you like to try this?

It’s a “bacon mac’n’cheese doughnut” – who’s in?

  1. I want to taste that Oreo mashup

  2. I’m not a fan of sweet mixed with savory so I wouldn’t go for this.

  3. Hysterical. Now I want one…or four

  4. Okay, the closest I got to something like that was when I ordered a deep fried twinkie at the Puyallup Fair a few years ago. I thought it might be delicious, gooey, and decadent, but I was disappointed, it actually tasted more like a corn dog! 😉 🙂

  5. Thanks for trying that for us, John. I don’t think I will be eating one anytime soon though. 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.

  6. Having made oreo brownies with Lily I was pleasantly surprised so if the kids had one I would taste itjust because I can 🙂

  7. They do indeed, John and after the brownie revelation I wouldn’t rule any combo out 🙂
