Want A Unique “Moon-Viewing” Burger? It’s “Tsukimi” Season In Japan – So Let’s Eat!

It’s “Tsunami” Time!

Don’t know that that is? Well, if you love burgers you should, because it’s a delicious annual tradition in Japan!

The name Tsukimi translates to moon viewing and part of an annual, mid-autumn harvest festival honoring the moon at its fullest and brightest. It happens in September in Japan, leading all of the burger chains to come up with unique burgers – all containing an egg!

As reported, it’s become customary for these “moon-viewing burgers” to include an egg — because “tsukimi” is the word used for dishes containing egg in Japan, due to its resemblance to the moon.”

That means that all of Japan’s fast food restaurants are rolling out their “moon viewing” burgers!

SoraNews24 Reporter Casey Baseel has the details on First Kitchen”s burgers:

“The top layer of First Kitchen’s tsukimi mochi burger is, as required for tsukimi burger qualification, egg with a creamy, melty center. And at the bottom you’ve got the patty. But right in the center is fried mochi, Japan’s version of a sticky rice cake. This mochi is simmered in a soup stock of katsuo and kombu (bonito and kelp) and slathered with a sweet sauce, and even the burger’s buns are treated with soy sauce for an enticing mix of old school Japanese flavors applied to a hamburger.”

One restaurant chain rolled out Sailor Moon to help!

Yes, the iconic hamburger chain MOS has a wild number of new burgers…like this one, where a hot dog is literally wrapped to form a “nest” for the egg!

SoraNews24 really has the coverage of this annual “ode to the moon”…

Next up, McDonald’s announced THREE special burger for “moon -viewing”:

Are they any good?

Well., you have to click the SoraNews24 story to see their taste test!

They report that: “the three new additions to the Tsukimi Family, as McDonald’s calls the range, are the Chicken McNuggets with Yuzu Kosho Mayo Sauce (240 yen [US$1.63]), the Tsukimi Nagano Shine Muscat McShake (190 yen) and the Shichimi Kaoru Gyusuki Tsukimi, or “Scent of Shichimi Beef Sukiyaki Tsukimi” burger.

Keeping the story going, SoraNews24 just reported on how American hamburger chain Wendy’s has jumped into the action:

They report:

“On 7 September, Wendy’s released a new duo of burgers in honour of tsukimi moon-viewing, an annual event that falls on the night of the full moon in September. While it’s become customary for moon-viewing burgers to contain egg — “tsukimi” is the word used for dishes containing egg in Japan, due to its resemblance to the moon — Wendy’s is putting a new twist on the tradition by pairing the egg with cheese, bacon and a hashed potato, and calling it the Tsukimi C.B.P. – Chicken, Bacon, Potato!”
