Have A Messy “Big Mec!” LA’s Most Unique Burger Pays Homage To McD’s!

Now That’s A “Big Mec!”

No that’s not a misspelling, this is a unique – and very messy – homage to a McDonald’s Big Mac!

Time to head to Sharman Oaks California to bite into his McD’s homage!

Time To Bite Into “The Big Mec!”

I ate at Petit Trois in Sherman Oaks, and it’s a beautiful, Parisian-style bistro that has classic bistro dishes with a lot of Southern California flair…

The menu has such classics as Burgundy Escargots, Steak Tartare, Sole Meuniere and Steak Frites, but what caught my burger-loving eye was their take on the “Big Mac”, which they call, naturally:

The “Big Mec” Double Cheeseburger!

Time To Bite Into This Big Mec!

What can I say? Their take on a McDonald’s Big Mac supersizes EVERYTHING, and as the menu says, there’s plenty of bordelaise sauce as well!

Sometimes a Chef can go to an extreme that can be too much, but believe it or not, this works! And yes, it’s the messiest burger I’ve ever eaten!

As you can see, the sauce, cheese and gravy oozes from the burger and forms a nice pool of sauce to dip the burger in as well…it’s super rich, but as you can see when the burger is cut inhale, there are a lot of other things inside that provide a nice balance to the richness, particularly nice chunks of tart pickles…

While these pictures I took make the burger look massive, it’s actually NOT as huge as you would think – they were wise to serve it on a normal size bun, as too much bread would have made it TOO filling:

Glazed Bacon!

A special side dish is the glazed bacon, which is a thick slice of bacon that has a slightly sweet glaze…it is delicious as a side dish…overall, Trois Mec has a strong bistro menu, lots of flavor, and yes, it’s a messy burger, but not in a negative way!

There are lots of burgers in Southern California and here are two more I have enjoyed:

Astro Burger in West Hollywood, on “route 66”, offers up a massive pastrami-topped burger that is delicious – and all of the flavors blend together nicely – you can see my whole review here:

I am also a fan of Bob’s “Big Boy” Burger from Burbank California:

What is so cool about the iconic Bob’s Big Boy restaurant is they have a weekly vintage car show in their parking lot…see more about this iconic restaurant here:

Oh, and remember when I got a burger at the end of the world?

There’s a burger joint on the Santa Monica Pier, the end of US Route 66…how was the burger? See my review here!

Most recently, an acclaimed Hamburger Historian opened his own place in New York’s lower west side – so I popped in and had him make me one of his famous grilled onion burgers – take a look:

The wildly popular “Hamburger America” is packed every day – but for good reason?

  1. as soon as I saw the bacon….

  2. OMG, John 🙂 ! I may not be a ‘burger person’ but this looks such a big, glorious, tasty mess to try . . . I’d happily put a bib on and have a few bites! Love the look of the very elegant burger ‘joint’ also !!!

  3. Too wet and sloppy for me. But the bacon looks great, and if they ‘hold the gravy’, I’m in!

    Best wishes, Pete.

    • It’s a knife and fork burger to be sure, and not really sure why they loaded it up the way they did, but it’s all part of a Big Mac homage trilogy Pete…with the newest one I just ate coming soon…thanks as always for reading!
