Would You Eat Underwater? I’ve Got Some Of The World’s Wildest Restaurants!

Ready To Dine Under Water?

Thanks to my friend Deb Jenkins for sharing this with me – a cool restaurant that serves your food to you 18 feet underwater!

It’s located in the icy sea off the coast of southern Norway. Here’s what they say about themselves:

The sea embraces you, and through our restaurant,
you will explore it with all your senses.

According to a news report:

Restaurant Under has a set menu that will rotate seasonally, but expect to see lots of fish and shellfish, plus food from the beach outside like sea arrow grass, sea rocket and salty sea kale. The local area is known for wild mushrooms and berries, and those will be used on the menu as well, according to the restaurant’s web site.

It’s right out of the film “The Menu” – with modern molecular takes on classic cuisine…here are a few of the dishes served:

* Ramson, roe, crispy bread, fish skin

* Langoustine claw, pastry

* Tuna, yellow berries, fennel

* Langoustine, carrot, quince

* Scallop, black oat, artic kiwi

* Sourdough bread, jersey butter

* Cod, yellow beets, koji

* Monkfish, parsley root, peaso

* Artichoke, apple, blackberry

* Black currant, sour cream, red beet

* Choux, caramel, pumpkin seeds

Well, I’m all for this!

As I said, it reminds me a bit of this wild 2022 movie about a pretentious restaurant – and Chef – who wrecks havoc on his diners at an isolated restaurant:

What a great foodie film! See the trailer and more here:

I have shared with all of you a number of unique ways I’d like to dine – and this one tops my list:

It’s “Cliffhanger” Dining!

Yes, I would sit at a table attached to the side of a cliff, wouldn’t you?

See how they do it here:

I love all kinds of unique dishes, like this molten one I was served in Budapest!

It was all part of a unique dinner in that city…see it all here:

  1. well, no cliff dining for me, but the idea of eating underwater is fascinating!

  2. Hmm, maybe I’d eat under water. It looks like quite the place.

  3. Hmm, I would consider it. I’m interested in out of the way restaurants. But before I do, here’s what I want to know: Has one ever sunk or sprung water with customers eating or, if on a cliff, started falling over? Legitimate questions don’t you think? Ha, ha.

  4. Thank you for this interesting place! Actually, there are 2-3 more I have encountered around the world . . . will do homework as to where when work is over! Don’t know whether it really draws . . . I am a scaredy-cat and methinks the possibility of the glass breaking would worry 🙂 ? Budapest is a hugely intelligent and educated place – I was married to a Hungarian nobleman living here in Australia for four years and we actually spent a summer there still during the Russian occupation – scary but fascinating as far as the high education of the people, the opera, ballet, art etc were concerned. Actually, the food I could leave . . . not such a wide variety and somehow heavier and more boring than I was used to . . .

  5. wow, as soon as I saw this, all I could think of was ‘the menu!’

  6. I would try any of those unusually-located restaurants quite happily. I just wish the underwater place would serve decent portions of food, rather than ‘Nouvelle cusine’ that leaves you still hungry after dinner! 😊

    Best wishes, Pete.

  7. This is such an interesting idea for a restaurant. I must see where in Norway it is.
