A “Pimento Cheeseburger” Wraps Up National Burger Month! “Hamburger America” Sticks The Landing!

Celebrating A Month Of Burger Celebrations!

May was a month for great eating – it was National Burger Month! I have ben celebrating all month long, and today am wrapping up the month at an all-time favorite restaurant – Hamburger America on Houston Street in New York City!

This is a shrine to the smash burger, and I come here regularly. I always try to belly up to the bar, because you get a great view of the cooks in action on the grill!

Check it out: smashing the burgers and covering them with raw shavedonoin!

I could watch this all day, but I’m on a mission – as it’s the last day of “National Burger Month”, I wanted to go out big. Time to check out the monthly burger special:

I head to Hamburger America regularly: not only is their grilled onion burger incredible, but their monthly specials celebrate great burgers from across the country – which is how I found myself ending “National Burger Month” with “The Pimento Cheeseburger”: a South Carolina tradition, this takes a griddled hamburger patty and tops it with melted pimento cheese on a toasted bun: add a slice of tomato, diced onion and shredded iceberg lettuce and we are on!

Let’s check in on the cooking process:

I love how the bottom bun sits on the grill on top of the top bun…then they take the whole thing off the grill and slide the bottom bun underneath before wrapping…those are regular grilled onion smash burgers, and I ordered one but I had to have the special – here is the “Pimento Cheeseburger!”

What can I say? Once the pimento cheeseburger arrives, it’s time to check it out:

Well, what can I say? It’s SO delicious! The meat is juicy, the pimento cheese zesty, and the lettuce and tomato are a perfect accompaniment…this may indeed be Hamburger America’s best monthly special yet!

Let’s pick it up and se it more closely:

Folks, this is incredible! I am now a convert to pimento cheese! A bit of zing to the creaminess…this is a gold standard for burgers!

OK, full disclosure: I also had to have that grilled onion smashburger as well!

You saw how cool it looked on the grill: this grilled onion burger is delicious: the onions are caramelized under the smashed burger, and the cheese is melted into the meat…heaven.

I like that they let me decide if I want the pickles on the burger – which I do of course…but one bite first of only meat, cheese and grilled onion..sublime!

Hamburger America does it again: I love that Chef George Motz celebrates burgers from across the country, and the walls have lots of pictures of vintage burger joints past and present…bravo!

So, was this the greatest “burger of the month” yet? Well, yes but not my much! Remember this one?

I love green olives, and I love kewpie mayo – both of which were part of this incredible “secret sauce” burger I had there! See my review here:

As I said, every month another great burger gets the spotlight – including one with an olive spear!

This is a “Galley Boy” burger and it was delicious as well!

This was a recent special burger at Hamburger America – which I highlighted as part of “National Burger Day 2025” – see my review here!

I also did a crossover with my mainstream blog by reviewing Shake Shack’s Truffle Burger!

Yes, it was as delicious as it looks! See my full review here!

I only knew of these important culinary holidays thanks to a terrific food site:

“Burger Beast” knows all! How? Because he wrote the history of the burger!
