It’s A “Super Sized Food Fight!” Philly Cheesesteaks Vs. KC BBQ – Who Will Win?

Kansas City Vs. Philadelphia! Time For A Tasty Super Bowl Matchup!

It’s a big big rematch for Super Bowl 59 – the Chiefs will be trying to make NFL history, while the Eagles are looking for revenge…what a matchup!

Will Kansa City become the first team in NFL history to “three peat?” Or will Philadelphia avenge their loss from 2023…we will soon see!

As usual, the big game means big big meals like this!

This Stadium Is A Foodie’s Touchdown!

Yes, this “burger stadium” is just what I plan to make for this year’s big game – and since both teams come from great food cities, I will also make these two dishes as well – here is the food matchup between Kansas City and Philadelphia!

The Taste Of Philadelphia Vs. The Taste Of Kansas City!

I love that both cities have delicious food – so let’s take the “food field!”

To honor the Eagles, I have ordered a legendary “Philly Cheesesteak” kit from a legendary Philadelphia restaurant:

Behold Jim’s Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich!

Well, this is a “Super Bowl worthy” sandwich for sure! Philadelphia is known as the home of the “cheesesteak” and they are VERY particular about it!

Jim’s Steaks sells a “complete it at home” kit for their famous cheesesteaks…and what makes a real “Philly Cheesesteak” real? I found this description for the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich on a website:

“According to Philadelphians, you simply cannot make an authentic Philadelphia Cheese Steak sandwich without an authentic Philadelphia roll. The rolls must be long and thin, not fluffy or soft, but also not too hard. They also say that if you are more than one hour from South Philly, you cannot make an authentic sandwich. With cheese, it is a cheese steak or “cheesesteak.” Cheeze Whiz is the topping of choice for serious steak connoisseurs.”

You can also grilled onion and bell peppers as well – and the kit comes with everything we need to make them to our liking!

This isn’t the first time I’ve ordered an iconic Cheesesteak from GoldBelly and found it delicious – and was able to make it at home!

This one was built on a round roll – from Donkey’s Place!

See the recipe and more here:

As for Kansas City, it’s all about the “Q”:

Here’s what I found online about this iconic smoked delight:

“Kansas City’s barbecue craze can be traced back to Henry Perry, who in the early 1920s started barbecuing in an outdoor pit adjacent to his streetcar barn, serving slabs of food wrapped in newspaper. Perry’s ‘cue became so popular that fans began imitating his technique and style to create their own unique recipes.”

Smoked briskets, sausages and all the side dishes take time, but which one of these cities’ has the food you crave for the game?

I plan to make the Rib recipe I did a few months ago:

“Bourbon Butter BBQ Ribs!

I discovered this recipe thanks to a great guy at Pepper Palace, who showed me how to combine two of their special sauces to creat this at home:

Friends will supply the side dishes and we are ready for a football feast! If you want to try these yourself, here is the complete recipe:

As for Super Bowl Sunday, I love how many people celebrate the matchup of “football and food” by making unique food stadiums:

I love the food stadiums online!

As Led Zeppelin once sang about the Super Bowl: the teams might change but:

“the snacks remain the same…”

Twinkie food fight

Now THIS is a Super Bowl stadium I would buy a ticket for! Yes, when the world’s biggest sporting event is on TV, you have no option but to do your part to live up to the hype – and that means only one thing!

THE SUPER BOWL OF SNACKS!

I plan to make a LOT of fun Super Bowl food once again this year – it’s an American tradition that goes back to the beginning of football, right?

And of course, you can never go wrong when you unveil a snack stadium that looks like this – all of these great pics raise a question: how much food IS eaten on Super Sunday?

HERE ARE THE STATISTICS ON SUPER BOWL SNACK FOOD!

The Super Bowl is ranked as the number two food consumption event of the year, second only to Thanksgiving! (Source: American Institute of Food Distribution)

Get Ready To Consume 1,200 Calories!

Yes, thanks to Holytaco.com for the terrific Twinkie stadium, which should remind us all that the average number of calories consumed during the Super Bowl is 1,200! It’s the second largest day for U.S. food consumption, behind only Thanksgiving!

71.4 million pounds!

Yes, that’s the estimated total pounds of Hass avocados that will be consumed for the game this year, according to the Hass Avocado Board. That’s enough to cover the Super Bowl Stadium end zone to end zone in more than 27.5 feet of avocados – that’s a lot of guac!

I love the way the guacamole looks like the playing field here!

90 Millions Pounds Of Wings, Please!

Hope you have enough ranch dressing and paper towels to handle this one:

1.25 Billion Wings!

Yep, that’s the number of Chicken Wings that football fans are expected to eat on Super Bowl Sunday, according to the U.S. National Chicken Council, and why would they lie to us?

potato chip consumption

Don’t Forget The Chips!

Ys, potato chips are an American tradition, and we make sure to stuff our gullets during the game!

An astounding 14,500 tons of chips and 4,000 tons of popcorn are eaten on Super Bowl Sunday.

The Calorie Control Council says we’ll eat:

— 11.2 million pounds of potato chips.
— 8.2 million pounds of tortilla chips.
— 4.3 million pounds of pretzels.
— 3.8 million pounds of popcorn.
— 2.5 million pounds of nuts during their Super Bowl parties.

One last statistic to share and it involves THIS:

Cheer On #32!

Yes, we all support #32: that’s the percentage of U.S. grill owners who will be firing up on Game Day!

According to Weber, the Super Bowl ranks as one of the top 10 most popular holidays to grill. And when you do grill, turn it into something amazing like this!

Yes, nothing better on Super Bowl Sunday than a grill full of burgers and sliders, including my favorite: A burger topped with Provolone, french fries, thick bacon and tartar sauce!

You can click here for some of my favorite slider recipes:

Of course, none of this food can go down without a little help!

Is There A Beverage With Your Meal?

Well, what do YOU think?

During the Super Bowl, there will be 325 MILLION GALLONS of beer consumed. That is A LOT of beer…you might need a bit of help carrying it to your table…

Serving Up A Bacon Mug!

And when in doubt, just pour yourself a frosty brew in this mug and have a nice snack at the same time!

  1. Phew! I’m full just from looking at your photos! How in the world do you find them?!!

  2. Wow there are some specacular dishes here, John..love the bacon mug…

  3. since my lions are out of the mix, and I’m leaving the coneys behind, I’m all in for Philly and their cheesesteaks

  4. Oh you’re killing me John. I’m trying to eat healthy — at least until Sunday. I love the food stadiums. And yes, I concur on the cheesesteaks, the roll makes or break the cheesesteak. And God strike me down but I’m not a big whiz fan. I never knew Jim’s had kits like that. I’ve been to Jim’s but I tend to have my favorites out in the burbs. (Here’s a future blog idea for you … Bradley Cooper’s cheesesteak shop Danny and Coops in the East Village. I’ve heard good things.) But I have to admit … the brisket looks really good too. I just hope that it isn’t a sign of what’s going to happen in the game. Go Birds. Ugh. Maybe I’ll just settle on wings!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣😎

    • Thanks for that tip – and I think it’s going to be a bit of a barnburner – but if Philly shows up like they did against Washington, KC may not be able to rely on the “breaks” always going their way…they needed them all to barely hang on to wins, they never stomped anyone like the Eagles did!

      • A high scoring game. Oh, I hope so. I think that’s in the Eagle’s advantage. However …. I didn’t grow up in Philadelphia but I’ve inherited the all-in, but still fearful for what could happen perspective. I think the eagles are the better team and I love Saquan’s attitude, but Mahomes and even Kelcie (after all this time) are so good. It’s hard to beat them!!!

      • The Chiefs have gotten a reputation, deserved or not, for being given unfair favorable treatment from the Refs – that and the “Travis Kelcie is everywhere” overexposure for the past year + has made them villains it seems for many…I say this: let’s NOT have any call that makes it seem unfair, and then let the best team prevail and make it close!

      • I love Jason Kelcie but he and his brother are way overexposed. I’m surprised they’re still being asked back to shows, etc. (Travis at least has the Swiftie connection, but still …. Enough is enough.) ha ha

      • It’s the way entertainment works…they all see an easy hook – and a safety net because if the project doesn’t wok they always cling to the fact everyone else liked them too…herd mentality and then you never see them again
