Tasting Rome’s World Famous Cacio e Pepe – Biting Into Our Roman Holiday!

Welcome To Rome!

There’s no better way to announce your arrival in Rome than to get some pictures at the Colosseum!

It’s all part of being a tourist in one of the busiest cities with so much ancient wonder to explore!

Trevi fountain was gorgeous as always, but very crowded – and that’s a refrain we heard many times: Rome was just too busy!

How crowded was it? check out this video of Trevi fountain:

Of course, all that tourism made us hungry, so we headed to a legendary Rome restaurant!

We ate at Felice a Testaccio, which opened in 1936! This family-run restaurant is known for their Cacio e Pepe!

Here is how they prepare it for you table side:

Cacio e pepe is a pasta dish typical of the Lazio region of Italy. Cacio e pepe means ‘cheese and pepper’ in several central Italian dialects. In keeping with its name, the dish contains grated pecorino romano and black pepper, together with spaghetti or spaghettini.

It was heavenly! We also enjoyed some other terrific dishes that night:

We had spaghetti alla Felice, with incredibly fresh cheery tomatoes and parmesan cheese, as well as a pork shank with roasted potato:

A plate of grilled zucchini and eggplant topped off the night, along with a great great great wine:

After this incredible visit to Rome, we grabbed the train for Florence for this amazing meal!

It’s a classic dish served only one way – RARE!

Click here for more of that adventure!

After that iconic Florence dining experience, we took a walk and Alex found us one of the rare Florence wine windows!

Wait, what exactly is a “wine window?” Easy, look!

There is such a fascinating history behind these, and we were so glad there are still a few open!

Here is the story:

Finally, I shared the recipe for a classic Spaghetti Carbonara from Hollywood’s oldest restaurant – you can see it here:

I you want more of a tour of Rome, I just shared this look inside the Colosseum:
