You are looking at “fried milk.” Why? You no doubt want to ask me.
Well, it began, as most of my food adventures do, by walking the streets of New York and glancing to the right instead of to the left.
Because when I did, I saw this:
A new restaurant called Vivi Bubble Tea opened on 72nd near Broadway. I perused the menu, saw some favorites like dumplings and takoyaki – and then the third line down caught my eye:
FRIED MILK.
Intrigued, I stepped inside – and it led me to the world of fried milk AND MORE!
While known for their Korean bubble tea drinks, I wanted to try the food – especially the fried milk!
I started with the fried Shumai, a traditional Asian dumpling normally served open-faced but the deep fryer gave it a crunchy top – which I liked!
Next up were the Korean style Chicken Wings, served with sweet and sour sauce – with some crinkle-cut fries drizzled with sauce as well…I’m not a big wings eater but these were crunchy outside, moist inside, and the sauce was delicious.
With those out of the way it was time for some deep fried milk!
Behold The “Deep Fried Milk!”
As you can see, it looks a bit like a fried mozzarella stick, so what did it taste like?
Here’s my taste test:
As I said in the video, it’s deep fried and that always tastes good – and it wasn’t like cream filling – it tasted like solid milk!
Would I order it again? NO. It tasted just fine – but I saw no reason to ever re-connect to it!
Remember when I tried this deep-fried oddity?
Yes, these are deep-fried Oreos, and I taste tested them as well:
It was part of my food exploration of New York’s Feast Of San Gennaro – click here for the full tasting tour!
I love anything fried, and my absolute favorite sandwich of all time is fried to perfection:
Yes, a fried bologna sandwich is as delicious as it sounds!
Head to Chicago with me to see it up close by clicking here:
I also love the “finish them yourself” burgers and fun atmosphere of Chicago’s Billy Goat Tavern as well:

Well how interesting! At least you tried it!
There are few things I won’t try – stuff like milk chocolate scorpions – that kind of thing is stupid, but this is sold as something people enjoy, so I tried it! One and done as they say, although it tasted good!
Hey, I’d try it! Why not? And their other items looked pretty tasty too! And I do like bubble tea now and then. 🙂
Of course I had to google the recipe…Like you John I would try it and then move on 🙂
There were lots of things on their menu that I would have ordered, but I would very unlikely have tried fried milk. But now I have seen you eat it, I would definitely give it a go! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.
I was kind of expecting you to say it was like fried cheese, but eek! I’d say stick with your fav fried baloney
