Say Hello To “Samurai Red!”
Burger King Japan decided to make they burgers more colorful – and did they! This colorful approach to burgers happened a few years ago and I’ve been fascinated ever since!
The buns and cheese are red because of tomato powder, according to a company release, first reported by Kotaku. The burger comes with a grilled onion slice plus “Angry Sauce” flavored with doubanjiang spicy chili bean paste. The chicken gets lettuce and tomato.
The “Aka Samurai Beef” costs ¥540 – or $4.35. One reason I love Japan is that they just keep making colorful and imaginative burgers for the rest of the world to envy – like this one!
The company also had “the Angriest Whopper” which they called “flame-grilled beef, piled high with thick-cut bacon, American cheese, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, crispy onion petals, jalapeños, creamy mayonnaise and spicy angry sauce all layered between a fiery red bun that has hot sauced baked in.”
“Hold Your Tongue!”
I would love to see if there is a unique flavor to a red bun, so I have to head to Tokyo to try it out! And don’t forget this “black tongue” burger as well!

I am not the biggest burger fan but what fun, John…I tried the Burger King black burger at Halloween and it was ok they add charcoal to the bun but it was fun the kids loved it…I’m sure when the red one makes its way here they will love that too…always a joy and surprise to see what you amaze us with John…the Japanese are the masters of ingenuity and surprise I will share in Monday Musings 🙂

Tomato powder seems to be emerging as an interesting new ingredient. It is popping up everywhere. I’ll bet this roll is delicious.
