Bite Down On “National Cheeseburger Day” 2026!
Well, what a day of celebration indeed! Today is your day to celebrate “all things cheeseburger”, and I happen to be in the place where some of the best in the world are made!

Welcome To Hamburger America!
This restaurant in New York’s west village serves up some of the best burgers in America – and it’s because the guy who runs it wrote the book on burgers!

George Motz is a terrific Chef – and lover of all things burger! I got to know him at Hamburger America and took my good friend Vincent there and he was blown away as well!

Motz wrote a great guide to the best burgers in the United States – if you love burgers and burger history, this is the book for you!
He opened his own permanent shop in 2023 – and the wildly popular “Hamburger America” is packed every day – for good reason!
Hers’s the menu:

We are going to celebrate “National Cheeseburger Day 2026” with two, yes TWO of Hamburger America’s famous burgers: George Motz’s “Fried Onion Burger” AND his “Classic Smash” Burger!

Motz has cooked for me several times, but today we have one of his terrific staff behind the flat-top doing the honors.
Let’s get started as the flat-top heats up:
So here’s how a fried onion burger comes together: a 6 oz. beef ball gets seasoned, smothered in white onions, and then smashed into the flat-top…the heat is medium, which allows the beef to cook slowly – here’s why: once the burger is turned over, the onions are now underneath: and the medium heat allows the juices to caramelize the onions!
Then, time to add the cheese:
As you can see, the burger cooks now with the bun on top of it, so when it’s done, the Chef just lifts the meat and slides the bottom bun underneath – done!

And what a delicious burger it is! The creamy American cheese, the caramelized onion…this is a delicious taste treat!

The Motz Smash Burger uses diced onion, slides some pickle inside along with some mustard – also delicious! The meat takes center stage here a bit more without the caramelized onions – and the briny bite of the pickles pop as well – there’s really no option: you need to get both!
Here is a video showing the entire process:
Oh, and here’s the other menu page, which holds a fun surprise!

It’s The “GOM CHEESE BRR-GRR!”
What a unique “monthly burger special!” You see ,very month George honors a unique burger from somewhere in America – so I had to try the “BRR-GRR” from Columbus Indiana!
They put some buttered bread on the flat-top, add cheese, then add some sloppy Joe mix, here we go!

This was a delicious sandwich, and a fun “burger special” that’s fun and filling…and when you sit at the bar, you can watch them cook everyone’s food.
I could watch these onion burgers being cooked all day long and when you sit at their lunch counter you can! Here we go:
Read my review of my first time there – when George Motz was behind the grill!
As I said, it’s “National Cheeseburger Day 2026”, and my friend “Burger Beast” has all you need to know!

All of the special deals today can be found at his site right here – a great guide to make your day even better!
Sef Gonzalez, known as Burger Beast, is a well-known food blogger, writer, and influencer from Miami, Florida. He also wrote a great book about the hamburger – see it here!
There is one other burger chain in the US that serves up an incredible burger as well:

The Legendary In-N-Out Burger!
Only a few US states have this incredible burger chain – which pays homage to a wacky 60’s comedy!

Happy National Cheeseburger Day 2026!
