It’s National Taco Day! I’m Celebrating “Taco Tuesday” With Great Food And Recipes!

Happy “National Taco Day” aka “Taco Tuesday!”

Who’s hungry for a celebration?

National Taco Day in the U.S. is celebrated annually on the first Tuesday of October – you see, the date was officially moved from October 4 in 2024 to permanently coincide with “Taco Tuesday”.

The History Of The Taco!

I love knowing where food came from and its cultural significance so I loved this info.

Tacos originated in Mexico centuries ago as a handheld meal for the working class, but they have since evolved into a global culinary phenomenon with countless regional variations. The name “taco” may have come from the term for gunpowder sticks used by miners in the 18th century, called “tacos de minero” (miner’s tacos), because the spicy fillings resembled an explosive charge!

Americans Love Tacos!

We sure do! Recently statistics show that Americans eat over 4.5 billion tacos each year! What you see above are three soft tacos I had last night:

First, I had slowly simmered chicken topped with red onion and a dusting of Mexican cheese, followed by soft tacos stuffed with barbicoa beef, slowly simmered in spices, then topped with sour cream and roast corn….delicious and delicate – which isn’t always the case!

The World’s Largest Taco!

In this Saturday Sept. 10, 2011 photo released by the New Mexico Tourism Department, residents help build what state officials are calling the “world’s largest Navajo taco,” in Gallup, N.M. Organizers say no world record exists for the largest Navajo taco so they built one using 150 pieces of fry bread and 30 pounds of green chile. According to volunteers and state officials, the Navajo taco created Saturday was more than 10 feet in diameter and also needed 65 pounds of ground beef, 65 pounds of beans, 50 pounds of lettuce and 90 pounds of cheese. 3. Oh I celebrated early, ate mine last night!

  4. Well told story clearly shown – having been born in NE Europe with its forever open sandwiches – well, this is just a tad bigger and folded over 🙂 ! Love your story, know a little more about the birth of the ‘beast’ and have enjoyed my versions here across the Pond for eons. Hope you enjoyed yours enough to make one or two today and tomorrow too . . . 🙂 !

  5. Tacos are not sold so widely here as they are in the US. I like the look of the oldest recipe beef taco though.

    Best wishes, Pete.

  6. That Charro style taco looks massive! Love me some tacos. Never thought about putting corn in one, may have to try that.
