When Is “Ceviche” Actually “Tiradito?”
Well, it’s not a question I even knew to ask, but when Chef Mimi visited the Daintree Rainforest in Australia, she was served an incredible dish that I had to share!

This was a starter called “Tiradito.” As Mimi explains, it’s thinly sliced Kingfish with vegetables, sauced right after serving.
And there is the difference between ceviche and tiradito!
Ceviche fish is “marinated” – usually with citrus of some kind, and with Tiradito, the fish is sauced right before serving.

That inspired Mimi to share this beautiful looking recipe that I have to try!
See Chef Mimi’s entire post and great Tiradito recipe here!
I love Ceviche, but don’t make it much or share recipes often – usually enjoying it as a starter at a restaurant…

That included this fresh Ceviche dotted with Sea Urchin…it was part of an incredibly fresh meal on the island of Mykonos!

Mykonos was so much fun – thanks in part to an incredible new restaurant called “Mykonos Social”:

Awww thanks! Had you ever heard about tiradito?!! Very different from ceviche, but just as fabulous! Love what you had in Greece, minus that damn uni!!!
Nope, never knew of it, but now I want to make sure I look for this type of preparation as we love ceviche and it’s another way to enjoy fresh seafood!
mimi’s looks very good and I do enjoy ceviche, but have never made my own –
Am laughing! Isn’t the modern ability to split-second communicate world-wide marvellous at times – such as this! I also read and commented at Mimi’s – I adore all forms of well-served raw fish but had not encountered ‘tiradito’ either . . . and it kinda comes from my doorstep 🙂 ! Yes, I have oft made and served forms of raw fish (oft lomi-lomi in my case!) – one is guaranteed it is fresh at least! Hate to comment – but nearly died in Tahiti way back when the lomi-lomi had been sitting in the sun for hours methinks for a weekend hotel brunch and the doctors were too drunk to come out the 7 kms from Papeete! Just smiling after the event . . .
Well, that is indeed one of the issues with raw fish, isn’t it? And it is interesting how we can have a discussion around the world thru a keyboard! Thanks for the comment, always enjoy hearing from you!
Oh I enjoy ceviche, it is very tasty!
Yes, it’s a favorite of mine to be sure!
Sounds tasty!
Still too ‘raw’ for me, thought it presents well on a plate. Shared on Twitter, John.
Best wishes, Pete.
Hi John, I did not know about this dish so thanks for this post. I am trying to incorporate a lot more fish into my mealplans.
I eat fish primarily Robbie – partly because I grew up in Seattle where it’s art of your everyday life – and of course it’s healthy as well…thanks for the comment as always!
