Is This America’s “Last” Burger? This “Pier Burger” Is Served Over The Pacific Ocean!

Is This America’s “Last” Burger?

The answer is easy: it sure is!

But what do I mean by America’s “Last” Burger?

Well, how about the fact it’s on California’s iconic Santa Monica Pier, sitting over the Pacific Ocean – at the end of the fabled “Route 66”!

Of course Alaska and Hawaii both sit further west, but let’s say the continental lower 48 states and be done with that debate!

First, let’s take you to Santa Monica California – that is the Santa Monic Pier off in the distance, the actual end to Route 66 – America’s most iconic highway!

The official Route 66 starting point is located at 122 S. Michigan Ave. near the intersection of South Michigan Avenue and East Adams Street and just across from the Art Institute of Chicago. I found this image online and it’s credits to “Road Trip America”, who deserves the credit for the terrific shot.

Now, about the end of the road:

It ends here – AT THE END OF THE PIER! And on this pier sits a hamburger stand promising you the “last burger on land!”

The restaurant sits over the Pacific Ocean, so there’s no further place west to go for your burger than here!

There’s the menu – a few different burgers and hot dogs, a couple of sandwiches, and their frozen custard as well….of course, this is what I got:

I chose the “Pier Burger”: ordered with all the fixings including pickles and onions of course…they offered me the option of raw or grilled onions which was a nice touch – I chose raw. And I got the double – here’s what was delivered to me:

Lets give you a closer look via video:

The seating area is adorned with fun, “surfing burgers” and other colorful art, but I was there to bite into this and so I did and here’s what happened:

So that’s the “last burger” you can get in the US – located at the very end of iconic Route 66 – but there’s another terrific burger you can get on 66 as well:

This amazing “Pastrami Burger” is sold on Route 66 in West Hollywood – about 12 miles east of the Santa Monica Pier!

I’ve been digging in to the food on the East Coast as well:

Yes, that is the burger they serve at Paul’s Da Burger Joint in New York’s East Village!

That that review here!

Right up the east side sits one of New York’s most acclaimed burger joints:

This is the famous J. G. Melon burger and you can see my review here:

Most recently, an acclaimed Hamburger Historian opened his own place in New York’s lower west side – so I popped in and had him make me one of his famous grilled onion burgers – take a look:

The wildly popular “Hamburger America” is packed every day – but for good reason?
