Who’s Up For Some “Piranha Ramen?” Bite Into A Dish That Bites Back!

Got 3000 yen? About $28? Then You Can Have Piranha Ramen!

Got your attention? Of course I do!

Because, if you had a craving for REAL Piranha Ramen – I found a dish you can bite down on that promises to bite back!

Here’s the origin of this unique dish: one year on April Fools Day, the Japanese event creators Holiday Jack sent out a press release claiming they were going to sell the world’s first ever “Piranha Ramen.”

And they were stunned by the response!

As SoraNews24 reported at the time:

“The response sent the Holiday Jack team into overdrive, as they attempted to win back the favour of ramen fans by finding a way to actually make this ramen dish a reality. So they went off and ordered a huge shipment of edible piranha from the Amazon River in South America!”

Yes, the company ordered TWO THOUSAND edible Piranha to be delivered to Tokyo, where they made good on their promise to serve up delicious “Piranha Ramen” to anyone who stopped by!

They referred to this as the “world’s first 100-percent piranha broth” – and who is going to argue?

Piranha Ramen was only available for a short time, but based not he overwhelming success, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it come back!

Of course, SoraNews24 always has the greatest stories about life in Japan…you can see all of this story by clicking on their website here:

By the way, this isn’t the first unique ramen dish I’ve shared from Tokyo…anyone remember Actor Jason Statham’s black ramen?

Yes, Jason Statham made a film called “Hummingbird” and in Tokyo, they created a special “black noodle ramen” dish to celebrate it – you can click here to see how it tasted, and what made it black!

I love ramen, especially when it is served in a fun way, like this ramen burger:

  1. Hi John, I’m not sure about eating piranah fish. It is closely associated in my mind with horror stories. Quite an entertaining story about the April’s fools joke backfiring 😀

  2. I don’t think I’d have a problem eating piranhas. Are they just a white fish?!! I just don’t want to have to look at their not-so-pretty faces!

  3. In the Amazon piranhas are considered cleaner fish than catfish which are bottom feeders I would try it as sharks have a reputation(horror stories/films) but the meat is eaten especially in Asia hence yes I would give Piranha a try 🙂 Shared to twitter 🙂

  4. ‘Tampopo’ is a really good film, but I think I am giving that fish a miss, John!

    Best wishes, Pete.

    • Pete, it was a wacky stunt that surprised them because they didn’t expect anyone to really want it! I woudl try it if the taste was good, but as we “eat with our eyes” I understand taking a bite with those teeth looking at you might not make it as enjoyable as a meal should be!
