Pickles!
People either love them or hate them. So, what does Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen do? They announce a special pickle menu with this tagline:
“Pick(le) Them All!”
And this what they offered: a special chicken sandwich packed with pickle and more….so of course, I had to check it out!
Here’s how the restaurant chain announced this limited time menu:
“From the world-famous Chicken Sandwich to brand new menu items, and of course our signature Cajun sides, Popeyes has found new ways to bring that punch of pickle flavor you crave. The new menu includes the Pickle Glaze Sandwich, Pickle Glaze Bone-In & Boneless Wings, Fried Pickles, and of course, Pickle Lemonade.”
That’s right: PICKLE LEMONADE. I know what you are thinking:
Wait…Pickle LEMONADE?!?!?!?!
Yes indeed…more on that later, but let’s start with the “pickle sandwich”! It’s a breaded, fried chicken breast coated with a special sauce and sitting on top of fresh pickles!
See the image in the window? Well, the sandwich over-delivered on one hand, and didn’t quite on the other…first, here is what I was given:
Here is how they describe it:
Our buttermilk-battered, white meat chicken breast is smothered in a tangy and sweet dill pickle flavored glaze, combined with a rich and flavorful blend of authentic Louisiana herbs and spices, and topped with barrel-cured pickles on a toasted brioche bun.”
First, the very deliciously good news:
I ordered this sandwich twice, and each time, I was served a HUGE, beautifully cooked and surprisingly moist chicken breast – seasoned well with Popeye’s signature spices…really delicious…now for the only advice for you when you order:
Ask For More Pickles And Sauce!
In both cases, they were a bit light on the pickles underneath…and the pickles are terrific! They make the sandwiches to order, so ask them to pickle it up even more, and not only that:
Ask them for extra sauce as well: the ad shows much more than is on the bun and it too is great!

Yes, those are the pickle chips at the end of that clip, and here they are up close:
These were also delicious: it’s basically a deep fried breaded pickle chip but their breading has great flavor and the pickles were still crisp and flavorful. Now, back to that “Pickle Lemonade” – and a shocking confession:
It’s Incredibly Great!
Yes, that Pickle Lemonade is a revelation!
It has the slightly sweet and sour flavor of a great pickle, and a very flavorful lemonade that isn’t sweet, just smooth an rich with lemon flavor…the combo is intoxicating!
Let me tell you how good this is: I almost bought another one to take home for later at night – in order to add a shot of vodka to it – that drink would be incredible!
N ow the bad news is they plan to end this promotion today so run out now – and remember:
I was late to the “wow, that Popeyes chicken is really good” bandwagon but it’s a real one: many Chefs call it their favorite guilty pleasure…and of course, I have reviewed them before:

I love pickles!!! I also love both fish and chicken fried. Popeye’s chicken is just as good as Richie’s Fried Chicken.
