“Can You Add Bacon To My Order”?
If that is the first thing you ask your server when ordering a meal, then I have a culinary adventure for you!
First, smell what I’m cooking:
Yes, there is nothing better than the smell of bacon sizzling in a frying pan…and we are going to do some cooking with it real soon.
Before we begin, settle in with a drink:
A Bacon Martini!
Delicious. Nutritious too! Now that you are settled in, let’s start with a small snack like this:
A Hot Dog – Made Entirely Of Bacon!
A restaurant in Montreal makes a hot dog which is actually compressed and formed bacon…with bacon shavings on top…but for those who want a healthier alternative, try a salad!
The Bacon Caesar!
Looks healthy to me! A caesar salad with just a few chunks of bacon on top…oh wait, that’s not a bowl the salad sits in, it’s a “bacon bowl!”

It’s all about the weave…remember when I made a bacon weave – to cover my Thanksgiving Turkey? See how it all began:

It all turned out well, and it’s a terrific presentation when done as well!

So, I wrapped a Turkey? What else?
Well, I have that answer for you!

Behold The Majesty Of A Bacon Weave Burrito!
Here’s my new bacon classic, using our favorite cooking technique: the bacon weave!

As you can see, bacon is so much more than an ingredient: it has now taken over the role of bread and tortilla as well!

I have previously shared the “bacon weave taco”, which is a delicious way to go “south of the border”…which leads to this masterpiece:

The Bacon Weave Cheeseburger Burrito!
Talk about a low carb treat! It’s a cheeseburger served up as a burrito – without the tortilla shell – bacon will do the trick! Here’s the recipe:
1 1/2 pounds Oscar Mayer bacon (it’s the best for weaving)
2 handfuls frozen French fries
1 pound ground chuck
5 slices American cheese
3 tablespoons chopped red onion
1 pickle spear

Preheat oven to 425°F.
Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on it. Place 5 strips of bacon in an even layer on the rack. Place fries in an even layer on another baking sheet. Bake both until crispy, about 15 minutes.
Spread out a foot-long sheet of plastic wrap on the counter.

Make a 6×6-strip bacon weave (step-by-step instructions below if you’re a bacon-weave virgin).
Put beef in a gallon-size Ziploc bag and roll it out into a 1/4-inch thick, 10-inch square. With scissors, cut off the zipper closure and cut down the side seams, leaving just the bottom seam intact. Unfold the bag and layer on cheese, leaving a 1/2-inch bare on all edges except the top edge, which needs a couple inches. On the bottom third, pile cooked bacon, fries, onion, and pickle. Pull the bottom edge of the Ziploc bag up and over all the filling and roll into a tight log. Tuck the ends in.

Pick up the meat log using the bag and roll it off onto the bacon weave, near one edge. Pull the plastic wrap up on that edge of the bacon weave and roll the meat log over the rest of the bacon so it’s completely wrapped. Tuck the ends in.

Transfer the bacon-weave burrito to the wire rack and bake for 30 or 40 minutes, which is the difference between medium- and well-done.
Remove from oven and let the burrito rest on the wire rack for 10 minutes. Serve with your cheeseburger toppings of choice.

I love this recipe – and think I could make it for breakfast as well by taking out the cheeseburger ingredients and putting in scrambled eggs and has brown! As for the bacon-weaved Turkey, I didn’t mention it was maple-glazed as well – click here if you want to see the entire recipe for this “bacon weaved maple glazed” Turkey!
And remember, Elvis would approve of these recipes – because here is his favorite peanut butter and banana sandwich with a bacon weave as well!

Of course, bacon doesn’t always end well…remember this?
Yes, it was a “hard boiled egg stuffed bacon wrapped avocado” and what could go wrong?

I haven’t seen so many weaves since I took a basket making class!
You have made me smile!
woah, that bacon stack! I love everything bacon!
You’ll hear people use the expression, “It’s the greatest thing since sliced bread.” It works fine as an idiom, but I think it’s got accuracy issues. The comparison should read instead: “It’s the greatest thing since the bacon weave.” What do you think John?
HA! I totally agree! Let’s make it happen! Thanks for your note, always great to hear from you!
I’m with you on the bacon, John it makes everything just a little better..Love the caesar salad bowl 🙂
I agree Carol, and while I really don’t cook it much, when I do it’s a very good day indeed! Thank you as always for your comment!
I made a bacon, lamb and red wine stew today. I love bacon in food.
That sounds heavenly!
