Behold The Cheeseburger Sub!
Yes, I had a Cheeseburger Submarine Sandwich, and life will never be the same….only better. Thanks to the brilliant sub masters at “The White House” of Atlantic City, New Jersey….
The White House of Atlantic City!
This classic sub shop has been in business since 1946, and has served subs to everyone, including Presidents and yes, Jersey’s “Chairman Of The Board”, Frank Sinatra!
As you can see, they are massive submarine sandwiches…yes, they are called “submarines” because they have the same shape as the seafaring vessel – it is believed these sandwiches were invented by Italian immigrants about 1900 on the East coast of the U.S.A. According to wikipedia, five states claim they started in their area!
So of course when I tried one in Atlantic City – mine was a bit different!
Check Out My “Cheeseburger Sub!”
Yep, that’s a sub with ground hamburger, lettuce, tomato, melted cheese and pickles!
Here’s a closer look:
What makes the White House subs so good? Well, there are more than a dozen hot subs, more than a dozen cold ones, and every order can be “enhanced” with grilled or fresh onion, grilled or fresh peppers, a variety of cheeses, condiments, and…well, just about anything you can imagine…and they have a fun, “let’s share some great food” attitude – and of course, the cheeseburger sub!
These full size subs are massive – and a great deal – what you see here will go for $17-$19, but you’ll never finish a whole one in one meal, so it will last for a couple of meals!
I always look for something unique when I travel, which is how I found this in Chicago:
Behold the “Fried Bologna” sandwich! It was voted the single best dish in Chicago one year and there’s a reason for that – here’s my review!
Sandwiches rarely are the cause for controversy…well, unless you decide to charge $28 for one!
Harrods department store in London unveiled their $28 steak sandwich and the world was “gobsmacked!”
See more of the controversy here:
And speaking of unique – remember when I shared this “Simit-Pogacha?”

We love White House subs. Whenever anyone heads to A. C. A request is made to bring back one fisherman’s style.
I’d love to go to White House subs, but would have a really hard time choosing which one to try –
Those subs look great. I wonder what Atlantic City is like these days. Is it very run-down, or reborn?
Best wishes, Pete.
Pete, I just looked it up – there are 9 casinos left there, but AC has struggled to remain a destination…other than those casinos and the boardwalk it’s not a vibrant city…if someone who has been there recently reads this and has a different POV I hope they share it…
Thanks for that, John.
