Pass The Bourbon – I’m HUNGRY!
Yes, many of America’s great bars serve up great drinks and terrific food – but usually not on the same plate! Well, that has changed!
Take a look at this: it’s a burger stuffed with a shot of bourbon – and piled high with bacon to boot!
Take A Bite Down Under!
There’s a restaurant in Sydney, Australia called “Chicken & Sons”, who has created the “Bourbon Bagel!”
What’s inside? Well, they use Angus beef, American cheese, jalapeño peppers, pickles, bourbon barbecue sauce, and bourbon-glazed bacon on a sesame seed bagel.
Yes, BOURBON-GLAZED BACON!
I am ready to buy a ticket to Australia just to bite down on this –even though there are many great examples of excess right here in the US of A as well:
A Bacon Martini!
Well, what did you expect? THEY ARE PUTTING BACON IN EVERYTHING!
If you don’t believe me, then stop reading now, because bacon is about to take over your life!
And there’s more: according to many recent articles, this is also a wild craze:
Yep, A BONE LUGE.
It’s real, and here’s how it works: order a nice dish of bone marrow, and after you eat the marrow out of an animal bone, you have a channel for a bartender to pour your favorite hard liquor from one end of the bone into your mouth.
The internet is now full of pictures featuring photos of people getting bone luged….and I don’t know about you, but being “bone luged” just sounds wrong on so many levels…
Tasting Table highlighted the “drinking ritual from Portland, Oregon” that is “forging an especially close relationship between beef and booze.”
Indeed!
And clearly, EVERYONE is doing it…
One website offers some guidance to the novice:
“Some of the best drinks to pour down a bone luge are precisely the things one would savor and never shoot. Madeira and sherry are highly recommended.”
OK, let’s get civilized, with a nice glass of wine:
Well, a glass of red wine with a cheeseburger is a great thing, so why not?

This I can get behind, especially since wine is very healthy:
That’s right, Amy – in moderation.
Here are the real health benefits of a glass of wine and why you should too!

John, I am right with you on the bone luge. It feels barbaric.
They can keep the bones, thank you!
No bones for me !
I actually just had bone marrow two weeks ago and they never asked me if I wanted to follow it with a “bone luge!” I guess I eat int he wrong places!
hahaha
I might turn down a marrowbone luge, but I am ready for a bourbon burger and a bottle of ‘Cheeseburger Red’ any day of the week! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.
Pete, I just had a plate of bone marrow – review coming tomorrow by the way – and it never occurred to anyone at the restaurant to offer me an “alcohol luge” to follow it…must have been in the wrong type of establishment! Thanks for the comment, cheers!
Anything with bacon sounds good to me.. Marrow bone I’m all for.. the bone luge I’ll pass on that one…
Carol, considering that bone marrow isn’t on a menu here in America very often, funny how this is a thing! Thanks for the comment, hope all is well!
You are welcome, John and thank you, yes all is well 🙏😊
