It’s That Day Again: Time To Celebrate The Burger!
A hamburger: seasoned ground beef on a bun with cheese, lettuce, tomato and pickle. Add fresh onion, mayonnaise or other sauce, and you are set!

But who can stop there? As you can see, people just love to keep piling on, so for this “National Burger Day 2025”, I’m going to show you some of the best burgers you can buy – or make at home yourself!

For “National Burger Day 2025”, I’m going to share my experience with Mr. Hamburger America himself – what you see above is a grilled onion smashburger! After that I will take you to Shake Shack for a “double bill” of burgers!

Hamburger America is located in New York’s West Village…it’s the brainchild of George Motz:

George took his passion for burgers and wrote this guide to America’s great burger joints, hosted a TV show of the same name, and now has his own place in the big apple!

Every month, George features another terrific burger from across the country, in addition to his own incredible burgers…I will show you “The Galley Boy” but first, let’s check in on George:

I went to the soft opening of the restaurant and Motz himself cooked for me – here’s a look!
It’s so much fun to watch him at work, and here’s what he made me:

On the day I tried the “Galley Boy”, here’s how it went down – first, lots of meat, cheese and onions being cooked on the grill:
The “Galley Boy” is described as a “Double Cheeseburg with two special sauces ( a mild BBQ and a mayo-based sauce), served on a toasted bun speared with an olive!”
Here’s what came to my table:

The key to a good smashburger is to have the patties charred on the outside and pressed together on the bun…here’s a closeup look inside:

As you can see, the burger is served in a Swenson’s Drive-In wrapper, what a great touch!
Of course, I ordered some fries on the side as well:

To top it off, I had an “Arnold Palmer” to wash it all down: that’s a half-n-half mix of Iced Tea and Lemonade!

It was delicious, just like all of the food at Hamburger America – and I do love the burger recipes from around the country – ooh, and did I tell you I love olives?

So, I had a burger there with a “secret olive sauce” and shared that last year- check it out!
The “Crossover” event today take you to my “Bite! Eat! Repeat!” website, where I shared a “double bill” of burgers:

It’s a “Smokestack” and a “Black Truffle Burger” as well!
See those recipes here!
Every burger needs some sort of unique topping, right? Some use “secret olive sauce” which I loved, but here I go a different route, I just piled on the mac’n’cheese!

Here are some of the best ways to “mac up” your burger:
And if you really want to get weird, try my favorite burger of all:

Behold The French Fry Burger!
My favorite burger of all is this: just add french fries to the top of the burger, then a bit of tartar sauce, and top it off with cheddar cheese – a burger and fries all in one! In this cast I put some bacon underneath!

This celebration of burgers was helped by Sef Gonzalez, who is also known as “Burger Beast!”

I am truly not making fun of you saying I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your story whilst not having had a ‘burger’ for absolutely decades. Oh, if served one, I’ll remove at least the top part of the bun, and most probably the bottom and enjoy the healthy parts of the middle with a knife and fork on a plate . . . oh well, it takes all kinds of people in the world . . . I would not ‘do’ very well in the States, would I ?

I always say enjoy anything the way you want it! I know that buns are sometimes too much, and I really don’t eat burgers often, but they are the national food of the US and in New York there are so many interesting takes on them! Always enjoy hearing from you!

John – I know and in NO way meant to be ‘criticizing’ 🙂 ! Burgers are big enough a thing Down Under also . . . it is just that if one has been studying nutrition for 3-4 decades and tries to stay in some form of physical and mental health ‘late’ in life, one has to make choices 🙂 ! I promise to try and not be another ‘spoilsport’ for the longest time . . . and methinks your darling wife also seems to share a few of my thoughts . . . 🙂 !

No, I dint mean it that way, I meant that we can all enjoy food the way we want – I say change it, substitute it, or embrace the kind of cuisine we love – that’s all good!
