My Deep-Fried Oreo Taste Test – The Feast Of San Gennaro!

October 15, 2023 7:13 am

Does This Look Good?

I’m always intrigued when I see an Oreo cookie mashup – this time wrapped in bacon and fried…yum!

If you don’t know, an Oreo is simple a chocolate round cookie that is held together with creamy filling between two cookies like this:

They are an iconic snack in the US, and over the past few years they’ve been added to a state fair’s snack repertoire….so when I went to New York’s legendary Feast of San Gennaro, I saw all kinds of great food like this:

Here’s what it looked like when they made a sandwich with the braciole:

It’s a celebration of food that is so much fun!

In fact, here is a look at some of the other food I tried:

You can see all of the food they serve – just click here for the full story of this annual food fest!

Near the end of my trip, I was intrigued when I saw this sign:

“Fried Oreos”…my curiosity got the best of me and I bought a small bag of them: 4 fried Oreos for $5…

Since I bought them, took the bag home and decided to try them for the first time with the camera rolling…

Here’s a closer look: it’s a straightforward preparation: it’s an Oreo cookie that has been dipped in batter and then deep-fried….so let’s see how it tasted:

So there you have it…chewy dough wrapped around a straightforward, tasty Oreo cookie…would I eat more?

I’m not hungering for one, but if offered, perhaps!

Oreos are being used in all kinds of unique ways- even McDonald’s in China has found a unique mashup for them:

Yes, it’s a Be honest….would you?

To be honest, I would – why not? What if it actually tasted great?

Or are you more traditional and just want to keep it to deep-fried candy:

Yes, this is deep fried Twix cereal, and you can see who did it and why here:

Finally, if your taste runs sweet, would you like to try this?

It’s a “bacon mac’n’cheese doughnut” – who’s in?

  2. I’m not a fan of sweet mixed with savory so I wouldn’t go for this.

    1. To be honest Robbie I would never order this – but it called for a taste test! I’d never need one again as I’m not a sweet person at all – except for salted caramel ice cream once in a great while!

    1. Hey, it’s good, although the chewiness of the dough was a bit of a surprise! I didn’t need an entire bag but you do what you gotta do! Thanks for commenting!

  4. Okay, the closest I got to something like that was when I ordered a deep fried twinkie at the Puyallup Fair a few years ago. I thought it might be delicious, gooey, and decadent, but I was disappointed, it actually tasted more like a corn dog! 😉 🙂

    1. HA! I wonder if they cooked everything in that one vat of oil! This tasted just fine but it was very doughy and soft for a fried item! Thanks for the comment!

  5. Thanks for trying that for us, John. I don’t think I will be eating one anytime soon though. 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.

    1. Oreos have such a connection with people – they taste just fine for what they are and I love that you used them that way!

  7. They do indeed, John and after the brownie revelation I wouldn’t rule any combo out 🙂
